The Quiet Run™ Method

Running is not hard

The ease of running starts with proper breathing biomechanics. As an individual, you have your own, unique breathing pattern, as unique to you as your own fingerprints. The Quiet Run™ Method starts with observing and assessing your default breathing patterns at rest. Through the process, we will practice functional breathwork to gain control over your respiratory muscles during inhalation and exhalation. After mastering your breathing at rest, we will extend that skill to running and perform more advanced, dynamic breathwork. Through the process, your breathing will become more efficient. And with efficiency, you will experience the joy of running.

The science and art of breathwork

Oxygen provides the energy our bodies use to move. How our body manages and creates this energy determines athletic performance. Efficient respiration and the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide is achieved through optimization of breathing biomechanics, biochemistry, and psychophysiology. Breath science, the field dedicated to advancing our understanding of respiration, is evolving rapidly. The Quiet Run™ Method marries the art and science of breathwork with the running world. In fact, new research emerges daily showing the benefits of breathwork in the many aspects of our lives. One of the many benefits is enhanced athletic performance; just the cherry on top and a nice "side effect".

Mind-body connection

What differentiates an average runner from a very good runner? Many factors. But, a major trainable skill is resilience. Resilience is created by a solid mind-body connection and the ability to perceive your internal bodily sensations. This ability, known as interoception, sort of 8th sense that - together with a proper breathing technique - allows you to regulate your nervous system and create a strong mind-body connection. Developing this connection is at the core of The Quiet Run™ Method. Improved interoceptive awareness also has the added benefit of increasing running efficiency, avoiding injury, reducing workout anxiety, and enhancing recovery.

Quiet

Have you ever ran in a group while chatting with someone and found yourself out of breath and energy? Group runs often feel more challenging than solo runs because of the distraction of constant chatter and out-of-tuned breathing pattern that comes with speaking. Being silent during your running lays an emotional and physiological foundation of all other components of The Quiet Run™ Method: mindfulness, proper breathing, and mind-body connection. Listening to your body requires a quiet space. There can be only one speaker during an attuned run: you, speaking the language of your breath.

Most of The Quiet Run™ Method is taught online, from the comfort of your own home. Breathing assessments, breathwork, running coaching, and community support are all accessible to you online.
